What is Impressionism?
Impressionist works of art are undoubtedly part of one of the avant-gardes that most inspire us at La Florela. It originated in France in the 19th century and was born as a form of protest against the academic and traditional painting of the time.
And we know, from the painter Pierre Bonnard, what was the objective of the impressionist painters: “What I am looking for is the first impression: I want to show everything that we see when entering the room for the first time: what my eye perceives at first sight ”, that is, they wanted to capture life lived and experienced in small encounters, so they represented those scenes on paper with real colors and lights, changing forever not only the way life was represented, but also the way life looked.
Main characteristics of impressionism
According to the Encyclopedia of History, the main characteristics of this movement are:
• They completely moved away from historical, mythological and religious themes
• They painted outdoors.
• Their brushstrokes were fast, short and curved with pure colors, to generate vibrations.
• They compositional schemes were similar to those of photography.
• They were rejected for the activities that legitimized the artistic activity of the time.
• Although they were influenced by realism artists, they evolved towards naturalism.

Calle en Provincetown (1904), Childe Hassam
Childe Hassam was one of the most famous Impressionists for combining the expressive qualities of light with brushstrokes and vivid colors.
We love the peach tones, and the contrast it makes with the greens too, that is why this range is part of many of our products (which you can see if you click here).
Forest in Fontainebleau (1893), Berthe Morisot
Berthe Marie Pauline Morisot was a French painter, considered the founder and key figure of Impressionist art. He worked for three decades in his work, exhibited from the age of 23 at the Paris Salon, and joined the Impressionist exhibitions in 1874 alongside Monet, Degas and Renoir.
We were inspired by this painting of his to create a floral arrangement that also captured the sensation of broken brush strokes, in order to show life as we see it: “green, I love you green”, as the poet would say.

Dancers in pink (1883), Edgar Degas
When we talk about Degas's Pink Dancers, we are talking about one of the painter's most beautiful Impressionist works of art, which is why it has been the subject of multiple pictorial analyzes.
We were inspired by it not only because it is one of the most famous Impressionist paintings, but because we love the internal interplay of lines and colors: “a prominent aspect is the natural path that the eye makes when observing the canvas, it begins with the right and continues to the center, then goes to the left, but realizing that what the dancers are looking at, does not appear in the painting, the eye returns to the center and goes out to the right”.
